But now it’s time to continue our list! Here are 5 more Transylvanian destinations and plenty of attractions and program opportunities you should put on your bucket list. Let’s get into it!

Brasov (Brassó)

Brasov is located in the center of Transylvania, in a breathtakingly picturesque environment between the Carpathian mountains. Boasting a rich history, and cultural and natural attractions, the city and its surroundings are one of the best destinations in Transylvania, especially if you love nature.

One of the most prominent sights in Brasov is the Black Church. This is one of the most important examples of Gothic architecture in Romania. The church got its name from the devastating fire in 1689. At that time, its walls also fell victim to the flames, as a result of which the walls were blackened by soot. However, you should also admire the interior of the church, as there is plenty to see inside.

In the city center, you will find the main square, more precisely called Council Square, which is home to countless important buildings. An example is the building of the old town hall, which today houses the Brasov History Museum. If you would like to treat yourself to something delicious, this is a great spot to drink a coffee or have lunch. There are countless cozy cafes and charming restaurants on the square.

Among the most important attractions in Brasov are the White Tower towering over the city, the narrow streets, and Poiana Brasov. Poiana Brasov is one of the most popular resorts not only in the area but in the whole of Romania. During the winter season, you will find fantastic ski slopes, and in summer, those passionate about hiking and nature walks are welcome to visit the area. You will find great wellness and spa hotels here, so it is worth taking a look at the accommodation offers around this region.

Bran (Törcsvár)

You may have already heard about Bran and the imposing ornament of the village, the Bran Castle. Starting from Brasov, after only 35 minutes of driving, you will already find yourself in Bran, at the foot of the Carpathians. The castle in the center of Bran, perched on a cliff, is often referred to as Dracula’s Castle, which makes it one of the most important tourist attractions in Romania.

However, it is important to note that the castle is not connected to the world-famous Dracula. The castle was built in 1377 and played a strategic role, in protecting the border of Transylvania for centuries. Although the castle is often associated with Vlad Tepes, the Wallachia prince famous for his cruel deeds (who, incidentally, is the inspiration for the Dracula myth), there is no historical evidence that Vlad Tepes ever lived or visited the castle. Despite this, the castle’s interiors and exhibitions were partly built around the Dracula legend.

In addition, however, other interesting things can be seen in the castle. The imposing halls and rooms present medieval life and give an insight into the history of Transylvania. Of particular interest are the secret staircases and corridors hidden inside the castle.

Sibiu (Szeben)

Sibiu is a picturesque small town in the center of Transylvania. It boasts a rich historical heritage and vibrant cultural life. When you enter the old town, you feel a bit like you’ve arrived in the town illustrated in the Disney cartoon The Beauty and the Beast. It is no coincidence that the city became the European Capital of Culture in 2007 and has been a popular tourist destination ever since.

One of the most important sights in Sibiu is the Large Square. It is actually the center of the city and the location of many important buildings. It is home to the Brukenthal Palace, which houses one of Romania’s oldest museums, the Brukenthal National Museum. The museum’s rich art collections include works by international and Romanian masters.

The most impressive building in the city is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, built in the Gothic style. If you have time, go up the tower as well. From here you can enjoy a stunning panorama of the city and the surrounding mountains.

The Small Square is located next to the Large Square and is also home to many historical buildings. Here is the famous Liars’ Bridge, one of the oldest cast-iron bridges in Romania, surrounded by many legends.

The nearby Fogaras Mountains offer excellent hiking opportunities, while the Astra Open-Air Ethnographic Museum presents authentic Transylvanian village life.

Sighisoara (Segesvár)

Sighisoara is one of the most picturesque medieval towns in Transylvania, located in the heart of historical Transylvania. What makes the city special is that it has almost completely preserved its medieval atmosphere and architectural style. So you will surely immediately fall in love with the special atmosphere of the old streets. It is no coincidence that Sighisoara is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the most outstanding sights is Sighisoara Castle, which was built in the 12th century. Within the walls of the castle is the Clock Tower, which today functions as a museum. From here you can enjoy a stunning panorama of the city, but that’s not all that will amaze you here. For example, the famous House of Dracula is located here, known as the birthplace of Vlad Tepes (Dracula). Today, the house functions as a restaurant and museum.

The most famous of the churches in Sighisoara is the Lutheran church on top of the hill. It was built in the 14th century. Another iconic attraction of Sighisoara is the Covered Stairs, built in 1642, leading to the church. This staircase was originally built to protect the students going to school. Also to protect them from the harsh weather while they made their way up to the temple from the city.

Cluj Napoca (Kolozsvár)

Last but not least, the last stop of the Best Parking Budapest airport parking recommendation for the Transylvanian Tour is none other than the famous treasure of Cluj Napoca. Located about an hour and a half drive from Targu Mures, Cluj Napoca is not only one of the most important cultural and historical centers of Transylvania but also the second largest city in Romania.

The iconic landmark of the city is the Saint Michael Church on the main square. This Gothic style church was built in the 14th century and has recently been beautifully restored. If you can, also go up the tower, from here you have a fantastic view of the city. On the square, right in front of the church, you will also find the equestrian statue of King Matthias. It commemorates the most famous native of Cluj Napoca, Matthias Corvinus or Mátyás Hunyadi. What’s more, Matthias’s birthplace is also located not far from the church, only a 3-minute walk away.

Another beauty of the main square is the Bánffy Palace, which today houses the Museum of Fine Arts. The building houses a rich fine art collection spanning the period from the 15th to the 20th century. If you want to relax a little in nature, take a walk in the central park. It is also known as the Promenade. You can admire the casino building and the ducks and swans swimming on the lake.

Another important attraction of the city is the Botanical Garden. It covers more than 14 hectares and presents thousands of plant species to visitors. The garden is a real oasis in the middle of the city. It is especially worth admiring in spring and summer.

Cluj’s sparkling cultural life also deserves a mention. Cluj Napoca has many theaters, concert halls, and art galleries. The annual Hungarian Days in Cluj and the TIFF (Transylvania International Film Festival) are special events that attract many visitors. The Hungarian Days in Cluj are held every year around August 20. During this event, countless concerts and cultural programs entertain the city’s residents and visitors.
